Setting Your Tide Clock

Thanks for purchasing one of our tide clocks! If you have any questions or problems please do not hesitate to get in touch via social media, just search for mtjDeisgnsShop or email: contact@mtjdesigns.shop

Tide clocks work on the basis of averages, the average time between high tides is 12 hours, 25 minutes and 12 seconds.
You may think that 14 seconds doesn’t sound like a lot but twice a day for a whole month means a difference equivalent to over 13 minutes!

For the most accurate results please follow these instructions for setting your clock.

Obtain a local tide time table and a calendar that includes the days of the full moon. On the day of a full moon, adjust the dial using the wheel on the back of the clock to reflect the high tide time. Set either at the time of high tide set it to the top, or if the next high tide will be in 3 hours set that hand at the 3 hour point before the high tide top of the clock, and you are all set!

You can set the time on any date but by using the day of the full moon will improve accuracy over the next 29 day period until the next full moon.

If done properly, it will display the minimum error for the month. Usually, the discrepancy will be less than 30 minutes and for four or five days each month it may have a difference as great as 1 hour.

This is great for swimming or dog walking, but I would recommend anyone about to set sail to Carteret in time for the marina gates to plan their voyage using calibrated tide tables!
